ResourcesLyme Time I step out from the long winter that lended the opportunity for introspection with wonder, hope and renewed energy for the year ahead. I reach out and embrace the awakening of spring. The trees are beginning to bud, the snow crocuses push their way out of the ground and the birds sing the sun into the morning sky. The last of the snow and ice begins to melt away in the warmth of the afternoon. I share this time of joy and renewal with others who emerge with an equally charged zest for life. TICKS! Read more... Myofascial tissue is comprised of 90% water. Water is comprised of hydrogen and oxygen. Water is the only substance that the body does not have to process before using. The average adult male body is comprised of 60% water. The brain itself is comprised of 75% water, giving it the highest percentage of water than any other organ. The body uses water to break down nutrients into fuel and transport them into the cells. Water regulates body temperature, lubricates the joints and muscles to prevent cramping, and relieves the liver and kidneys by flushing them of waste products. We constantly lose water through sweating, urination, and other normal bodily functions such as digestion. Without water, dehydration sets in, disenabling the body from carrying out its normal function. It makes sense, then, that when hydrated, the body will function at its best.
To be certain that you drink enough water each day, follow this simple weight to water ratio rule: Divide your weight in half and drink that number of ounces of water per day. For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, your body requires 75 ounces (a little over a half gallon) of water daily.
